Monitoring and Learning

We are striving to be a learning organisation and look to share our insights to support the work of others.

Learning together

A Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Framework guides our insights to support the work of others, and enables our evolving practice and cycles of continuous learning. This includes convening internal learning sessions with staff and Trustees; tracking internal and external data; outcomes harvesting to understand the impact of our grants; an annual applicant survey; sharing grantee stories; and ongoing discussions with stakeholders to get external feedback.

Reflecting to grow and innovate

Our research and evaluation work included in-depth evaluations for Catalysts for Change and the Leadership New Zealand programme Mana Moana, the continuing longitudinal MPEI study, and annual GIFT reports. Internally reflecting on our approach to supporting innovation and on our COVID-19 Rapid Response has increased our awareness of the importance of recognising the skills and knowledge present in our communities, sharing power, taking risks, doing what it takes and adapting our processes to be more responsive and accessible.

Centre for Social Impact

On our behalf, CSI prepared an exploratory report on Working with Intermediaries and a report on the Housing landscape in Tāmaki Makaurau and Te Tai Tokerau. CSI also collaborated with others on a survey of 1,400+ community and voluntary sector organisations on the impacts of COVID-19 and the development and launch of a National Action Plan for Community Governance.
